Overview: Breast Cancer How Many Women Get Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer
is the most common cancer among women, other than skin cancer. It is
the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.
186,467 women and 1,764 men were diagnosed with breast cancer and
41,116 women and 375 men died from breast cancer in 2008.
The following information is based on NCI’s SEER Cancer Statistics Review
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 33. Breast cancer death rates are going down. This decline is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and improved treatment.
